Video Equipment,Camera's,Audio and Editing
It was once said that you could give a Stradivarius to a rank amateur and he would make noise, give Stradivarius a cheap fiddle and he would make beautiful music. This is no less true in wedding video, top notch gear is definitely helpful, however many award winning video's have been made with very modest equipment, and terrible ones made with state of the art gear.Talent and creativity being the difference. The following is a rundown of devices we use to create our productions.
Camera's
In all the year's I've been in business, (since 1989) I may have had two bride's and three or four groom's, ask me what type of camera's we use. Is it a secret? Hardly.Fact is most bride's could care less as long as the work they see and pay for is to their satisfaction. We currently use Canon and Sony HDV High Definition camera's,they are small so they will blend in well and not draw attention. They work in low light situations(like a reception) however many times ambient conditions at receptions require the use of a small on camera video light.(More on lighting to come.)
Audio
People listen all day long to radio, music CD's, audio book's all without the benefit of accompanying visual images, but most people would not watch a movie, a TV program or a slideshow for very long without audio. It is no secret that the "talkies" saved motion pictures back in 1927. As far as wedding video is concerned, audio is at least as important as the visual images in the overall quality of the finished product.
One of the main differences in an amateur "Uncle Charlie" job and a professional wedding video is the sound quaility. Pro's use wireless microphone's and other various types of digital audio recorders to capture sound. A camera's built in microphone does not have the full rich sound, that a separate high quaility mike has for capturing ceremony vows. An on camera shotgun mike, is a great tool for capturing reception footage. If we are ask to do interviews with bridal party members or guests, we use a professional handheld model, which give the subject the feeling of being a live on the air TV reporter.
During the editing process in portions of the video, music can be added to enhance the production. This varies from client to client depending mainly on what options they choose to purchase. All sound is recorded in Hi Fi, and all audio is precisely synched to match all video sources.
Editing
Unlike other wedding vendors whose service is usually completed when the wedding is over, our work will have just begun. Editing is the process that turns all the raw footage into a comprehensive viewable program. This is also one of those main area's that separate the pro's from amateur's and casual shooter's. It is not uncommon to spend thirty hours plus editing an entire wedding. This is where the "spit and polish" is applied, the voice synchronization, the titles, the graphics, the added childhood photo's and any other add on's you may request. This is the area in which creativity and artistic design are on display.
I personally edit each and every wedding we shoot, carefully examine all footage and every cut to
make the video uniquely yours. My desire is that your video will truly become a family heirloom that you will want to watch over and over. We never " Farm Out" our jobs, all shooting, design and editing is done by Video Treasures. We currently use a combination of Sony Vegas, and Adobe Photoshop.
